Personal Biography

Saxophonist and clarinettist, graduated with decoration at the Dutch Royal Conservatory, where he is Principal Subject teacher.

As a free lance musician working for the Dutch Symphony Orchestras as well as with the ASKO- and Schönberg-ensemble, Ebony Band, Ives-Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, The Beau Hunks. From 1992-2003 Lead-Alto-Saxophonist in the Metropole Orchestra.

He has been giving concerts as well with among others Polo de Haas, Janine Abbas and Ben Gerritsen.

With pianist Wolfgang Watzinger he has a duo that dedicates itself to the performance of a braod classical saxophone repertoire and with pianist Eddy van Dijken he presents ‘Saxophobia’, a program in which a great variety of old saxophones in historical-musical perspective is being transformed into nice sounds.

An extensive repertoire of compositions composed for the new invention by Adolphe Sax (played on original Sax-instruments) through important pieces of international composers (Ibert,Glazounov,Denisov, Brant) to contemporary music (Andriessen, Torstensson, Hannan).

“Saxophobia” Leo van Oostrom en Eddy van Dijken
Special and exclusive members of the broad Saxophone-family, among others the C-Melody, Stritch, Saxello, Swanee-sax, F-mezzo and Bass-saxophone, will be played and explained. Compositions of among others: Jules Demersseman, Jean-Baptiste Singelée, Rudy Wiedoeft, Jimmy Dorsey, Johnny Hodges, Frank Trumbauer, Bud Freeman and Darius Milhaud.
