Biography
At first they were pioneers and now they have become protectors of a precious
heritage.
In an old barn a legend started in 1969 and over the years it became an
incomparable highlight in the history of the classical saxophone.
A homogenity, combined with a spectrum of nuances, of which Bocuse could
only dream of, led to the introduction of the in 1969 yet unknown but
breathtaking French repertoire. In a natural way a big wave of compositions
followed of : among others Tristan Keuris, Wim Petersma, Peter Jan Wagemans,
Otto Ketting, Klaas de Vries, Klas Torstensson and their worldwide recognition
is still growing.
A cultural isolation of the saxophone quartet in France was ended and
encouraged by the Dutch Saxophone Quartet. Not only the technical possibilities
were extended, through which the spectrum of sounds could get an ever
changing character, but the saxophone was also taken out of its beautiful
though somewhat dull environment of the French repertoire.
Masters as they are, each in their own specialization, they brought these
cultural treasures along to their students of the various conservatories:
The Hague, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Groningen, Louvain (Belgium).
Guest-teachings all over Europe. What would the saxophone culture be without
the Dutch Saxophone Quartet?
